1 : an iced drink containing liquor (such as whiskey) and water or a carbonated beverage (such as ginger ale) and served in a tall glass.
If your go-to order at the bar is a whiskey-ginger or whiskey-soda, you’ve been ordering highballs without knowing. Now you can ask for a whiskey highball and sound a little more sophisticated haha!
This variation is super easy with just 3 ingredients (PLEASE make them staples in your home bar) and a simple stir. I used a japenese liquor becaause I enjoy the floral notes. If you don’t have Cointreau on-hand, use more fresh orange juice or 3 dashes of orange bitters.
- 2 oz whiskey
- 1 oz Cointreau
- 4 oz Ginger ale*
- Small orange
Fill a highball (tall) glass with ice. Slice your orange into wedges. Squeeze the juice or your orange wedge into the glass. Pour in the whiskey, Cointreau and ginger ale. Give it a gentle stir. Garnish with orange slices.
*Use sparkling water for less sweetness.
