In honor of Día de Muertos or “Day of the Dead”, I opted for a tequila smash using @tequilamalavida. This Mexican holiday honors and celebrates those who have passed on. Have one in memory of your loved ones anytime, you miss them!
This recipe calls for a honey syrup. Transforming honey into a syrup stretches it. This make it easier to pour and mix with. This is super easy to make and can be used in a variety of cocktails. I make a jar almost weekly and keep it in the fridge.
HONEY SYRUP
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ – 1 cup warm water (more water = more liquid)
Combine all ingredients into a jar, sqeeze bottle or whatever you have on-hand that can be sealed. Shake vigorously.
If syrup is still a little too thick, heat in a small saucepan over low heat. Syrup can be stored (refrigerated) for about 2 weeks.
NOW LET’S GET TO MIXIN!
- 2 oz Blanco tequila
- 2 oz Pomegranate juice
- 1 oz Cointreau
- 1 oz Honey Syrup*
- Rosemary sprig + extra for garnish
- Ginger Beer
Add tequila, pomegranate juice, Cointeau and honey syrup to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake for about 10 seconds. Just to chill. Pour into a glass of ice and top with ginger beer. Garnish with rosemary and pomegrante seeds if your fancy!
